The Lorax reading

We had a book reading of Dr. Seuss' book The Lorax on the 28th of April in the library.

Last month was Earth Day and this reading is perfect as it is a little lesson in recycling....

Everybody young and old enjoyed it immensely and we plan to do many more!

At 5.30pm on Monday April 28th, the Florence International Theatre Company's Creative Campus students are offering a free book reading in English of the Dr. Seuss book The Lorax. This reading is suitable for 3 years + and is open to all. It will take place at the back of the undercroft of St. James American Church.

In The Lorax, Dr. Seuss introduces the "Once-ler" who cuts down the beautiful Truffula tress so that he can use their wonderful silk tufts to knit "thneeds". Thneed sales are so successful that the Once-ler builds a factory and invents the Super Axe Hacker which cuts down four trees at a time. The Lorax speaks up in defense of the trees, animals, air and water that the Once-ler is destroying in pursuit of bigger and bigger profits. Finally, when the last Truffula tree is cut down, production of the Thneeds ends. Closed factories, polluted air, polluted water and an uninhabitable wasteland are all that remain on the once beautiful site. The Lorax can no longer live here, but he leaves behind a small pile of rocks on which the word UNLESS is inscribed.

RECENT NEWS:……Continuous Sunday Opening: the library will be open from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Sunday mornings beginning March. The library is open on Mondays but in the morning only from 11:00 am to 12 noon. The Wednesday opening remains the same:.11 am to 1:30 pm and from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.For the opening of the library outside these hours you can make arrangements with Kathy Kuhlman Procissi at 055 577 527 or 3493718406.

Originally founded in 1973 to cater to the children of the English-speaking community, today the Library’s resources of books, videos and DVDs in English are utilized by the Florence community as well. The Library also holds a children’s party at Easter, Halloween and Christmas which gives both parents and children a chance to meet and enjoy some of the games and activities we provide.
The library is open to the public from mid September through June.
On Monday from 11am to 12pm.
Wednesdays from 11am to 1.30pm and 4pm to 6pm .
Sundays from 10.00am to 1pm.
We are generously housed in the undercroft of the American Church , in Via B. Rucellai, 9.

Our Library is a non-profit, volunteer-run Association, that is able to replenish its stock and to cover yearly running costs by membership donations and the proceeds from the children’s parties .
Other events are scheduled throughout the year.
Our collection of books cover the ages of toddlers through to around 16 years of age.
